Top-two Leave in Conditioners

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

For the longest time I was loyal to my leave in - Jamaican black caster oil strengthen & restore leave-in conditioner. I used it each time to style my hair after I washed it. It worked just fine (or so I thought), until the day I made the mistake of blow-drying my hair, with the conditioner in, without any other protective styling before bed. let’s just take a moment to commiserate the broken and damaged hair from the middle of my head, as I’m still sensitive about it!

Okay and moving on… After that disastrous week, I washed my hair and then followed up with my usual leave in conditioner, and noticed my hair felt awful and that leave in conditioner was no longer working for me. So, I did what we all do now and I went on a Google mission. I found that it’s actually normal that once your hair is damaged, for your old products not to hit in the quite the same way.

At this point I needed to find a leave in conditioner that was moisturising and provided some detangling properties and as with all things, I did the research so you don’t have to! Below are my top two choices after lots of trial and error of other much-raved about products:

TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer

  • First off, it has a really nice peachy smell

  • This product is seriously thick and coats the hair – it has a similar feel to a gel (without any flakiness)

  • It doesn’t leave hands feeling sticky (but it does however leave a slight oily residue on your hands)

  • It has great detangling properties

  • It is very “buttery” and leaves my hair feeling moisturised (although I do follow up with some Almond Oil just to lock in that moisture in true LCO way)

  • It also provides great shine and slip

Curl Love Moisture milk, Rice Milk and Macadamia Oil

  • It also has a lovely vanilla smell

  • This product has greater detangling properties than TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer but less slip

  • It doesn’t leave flakes in your hair

  • The product doesn’t leave any oily residue on your hands like with other products

  • It is thinner than the TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer, but still leaves my hair feeling moisturised

  • It provides great shine

I love both of these products, and use them interchangeably with great results!
